HiLARY & Patrick Arkle
“My wife and I met in 1990 and had our first child in 1991. Warkworth was the very first place where we took him. A few years later, we welcomed our daughter and have wonderful memories including taking a photo of our children sitting on the wall of the old bridge across the river coquet in Warkworth.
Fast forward to our early retirement years, we always wanted a place in Warkworth and were fortunate enough to secure an old steel barn from Northumberland estates overlooking the golf course and sea. Being right in the heart of an AONB (area of outstanding natural beauty) was very special to us.
Our son Jordan and I embarked on a 2-year project to bring to life the vision of two detached stone and slate characterful homes. It was very much a labour of love which started in January 2022 by removing the steel barn, to laying the foundations in March 2022. The reclaimed stone was sourced from the demolition of an old school in Netherton, Northumberland. A stone mason was employed over the next 12 months, but each piece of stone was measured and cut by hand by my son and I. After many early mornings and late nights, the houses were finally completed towards the end of 2023.
Our favourite thing about the house is the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding farmland and wonderful coast. The Dunes has been designed to make the most of the breathtakingly beautiful views. Walks are literally on our doorstep so from the very first foot outside you can start exploring the outstanding wild and rugged Northumberland coast.
Days can be endlessly spent browsing the quaint shops in the village, exploring the ruined medieval castle, BBQing on the beach or stargazing on the balcony with a glass of wine. Life really does stand still here to spend quality time with your loved ones.
We can’t wait to share it with you. Hilary and Patrick.”
